The festive season is all set to become more celebratory and merrier for the casino fans as Detroit’s leading gambling spots are gearing up to reopen their doors after the month-long closure. The Detroit authorities were forced to halt the casino establishments’ operations after recording a rise in the coronavirus cases. The two popular casinos, MotorCity Casino Hotel and MGM Grand Detroit, will kickstart their services on December 23.
According to the report, the reopening of the casinos has been possible because of the loosened restrictions of the authorities regarding the coronavirus pandemic. The new casino guidelines will remain effective until January 15, 2021, as per the released statement. The pandemic gave a major blow to the casino business across the globe causing big losses.
The city of Detroit has suffered a whopping loss in tax revenues ever since the announcement of lockdown in mid-November. The casinos are a big source of revenue for the city, pooling nearly $600,000 per day. However, as conditions have begun to improve, the government has removed the restrictions on casinos, movie theatres, and bowling hubs. These institutions have to follow the strict guidelines framed by the authorities to ensure that the pandemic crisis does not worsen.
The MotorCity Casino Hotel will follow a strict protocol ensuring the safety of the visitors as well as the employees. The employees of the hotel and casino will be tested for corona before the reopening. The important guidelines to be followed by the local casinos are:
- Compulsory wearing of face masks.
- Social distancing measures to be followed inside the casino include ‘stopping slot machines, removing seating at table games and using plexiglass barriers.’
- Temperature checks during the entry.
- Smoking to be prohibited inside the casinos and hotels.
- Disinfection and sanitization.
- The capacity of guests is limited to 100.
- Closure of indoor bar and dining services.
MGM Grand Detroit’s doors will open at 5 PM, whereas the MotorCity Casino Hotel will resume operations at 1 PM on Wednesday. In MGM Grand casino, the visitors will get access to 1,500 slots along with video poker games and the BetMGM Sportsbook portal too. The table games will be opened at 8 AM on Saturday. The casino authorities are working closely with the Michigan Gaming Control Board, public health officials, and state authorities. They are striving hard to create a safe gaming environment and an intriguing gaming experience for visitors.
